Selecting Your Photos
Yay, your photos are done and you're ready to view and select your favorites. Before you begin, however, there are a couple things you need to know.
First, A Short Explanation...
Most people know that when you take a photo with your camera or cell phone, you immediately have a "jpg" photo. What happens is that after you take a photo, the camera applies the manufacturer's pre-determined amount of contrast, color, white balance, clarity, etc, based on average conditions. This is why you will often get inconsistent results.
Professional photographers almost exclusively shoot in "RAW" format. Simply put, we set our camera so it does NOT take a photo but only captures the raw data (no processing applied). The photographer then uses software like Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to hand edit the data images, applying contrast, color, white balance, etc, to his or her taste before finally saving the edits as a photo jpg. Unprocessed RAW files give us enormous freedom to edit an image anyway we like - ex: full vibrant color or black & white.
MY camera is set up to save TWO copies of every image I take:
RAW and a low-resolution jpg.
Two Copies - JPG & RAW
Why do I have my camera set up to take jpg & RAW photos? Because I used to spend an entire day editing 250-350 images from a 60 min family session only to have the family choose just 25 of them. As you can imagine, that got old really fast. Now I only edit the images you select (if you elect to purchase ALL the images, I will happily edit them all of course!)
So, the jpg images in your gallery are for PROOFING only - they are NOT the final images! That means they will either be too bright, too dark, too blue, too orange... too something. None of that criteria matters, however, as all of that is adjustable. You have only THREE things to keep in mind when choosing your images:
1. Do you like the photo?
2. Is everybody's eyes open?
3. Is it in focus?
How I Will Edit Your Photos
When I edit your photos I will adjust the exposure, color tones, white balance, contrast, clarity and other variables to create a beautiful image. I also usually remove distracting background objects like people, litter, sticks, etc. Then I straighten crooked horizons on all posed shots... but tend to leave them as is for candid images as it adds authenticity to the candidness. Last, I crop as needed for pleasing or interesting composition.
I do not photoshop people or faces, but I will remove the occasional temporary blemish, pimple, etc. Things like that are seldom an issue, however, as I normally don't shoot close enough for them to be visible.
How Many Images - That Is The Question!
The portrait package you purchased comes with either 25 or 40 digital images. Obviously, if after seeing your gallery you want more than that, additional images are available for purchase.
(NOTE: You will soon receive an email with the chance to receive a free 8x12 print or an extra digital image by leaving us a review!)
If you decide you'd like more images than what is included in your portrait package, you have 4 options...
Extra Digital Images
1. Additional digital images can be purchased for $25 each
2. Get an additional 10 digital images for $100
2. Or double your portrait package of digital images (ex: from 25 to 50) for $150
3. And if you want ALL the images from your session, they are available for $250.
If you would like one of these options, simply reply to the email you received with your gallery link and I'll send you an invoice.
How To Choose Your Images
If you are buying ALL the images in your gallery, than there is nothing else for you to do. As soon as I receive your payment for the All Digital Images package, I will begin editing your images and usually have them ready within two days.
If you are NOT getting all the images in your gallery, then you need to select the images you want. You do this by simply clicking the "favorite" or "heart" button on each image you want. Make sure to click on each photo to enlarge it and double check the focus and facial expressions. Once you've made your selection, let me know by responding to the email you received with the gallery link and I will begin editing those images.
With all digital downloads, you will receive a Print Release so you can make prints anywhere you choose. However, for maximum convenience, you can also order prints right from your gallery. Upon your order, a professional lab prints your photos and mails them directly to your home.
That's It - Now Go Select Your Images!
(Please note, the SOOC images are NOT available and will be deleted after you have made your selection.)
